Afghanistan 1979
Welcome to Afghanistan in 1979! There’s green tea, stunning landscapes, and Soviet soldiers encroaching on Afghanistan’s northern border. The Soviet-Afghan War of 1979 was the final straw for the USSR’s military. A mere year after the end of the war brought the end to an empire, and the beginning of a new era. And yet, did the USSR ever have to fall? WiseMUN invites you to think of realities where Afghanistan could be a power in Central Asia, the USSR would be at its prime, and the Cold War has serious potential to bring the Ice Age back to planet Earth. In this committee, delegates from all over the world will have to prop up a failing government, and ultimately decide the largest question of the cold war: Is the answer to the world’s problems Capitalism or Communism? Delegates will be debating and discussing this question in the fourth committee of the UN’s General Assembly - Special Political and Decolonisation Efforts. We advise delegates of intermediate to advanced skill level to join this committee, which will provide them with plenty of potential to succeed.
